Installing Software

Note: The following text are excerpt from GL4.0 Beta installation. Since the steps taken are the same, we are re-using the screen shots here. The download file name you use may be Et61try.exe or Gl40try.exe.

Important: If you use an operating system other than traditional Chinese Windows, read the instructions at the bottom of this page.

After you have downloaded or received Et61try.exe, save it on any hard drive. Use Windows Explorer to locate the file, and double-click on it to start decompressing (or unzipping) the file. The following is what you will see first:

Read the content. Click OK to continue:

gl40-02.png (4605 bytes)
(the highlighted line could be f:\torus\et61 on your machine)

If you install ET6.1 on a shared network drive f:, ET6.1 can be simultaneously used by many people. If you want to install it on the c: drive of a standalone machine, change the f in f:\torus\et61 to c. Press the Unzip button to begin decompression. Quite a few files will be copied to the designated folder and sub-folders. When the unzipping is done, you will see:

Click OK to continue. Now it is time to create an icon (a shortcut) on your desktop.

(In your case, gl40 should read et61 and GL4.0 should read ET6.1)

Again, if necessary, change all f to c in the dialog box. Click OK and the dialog box disappears. If you close or minimize Windows Explorer, you will see an icon created on your desktop as follows:

gl40-05.png (2415 bytes)

Double-click on the icon to launch ET6.1:

The default password is SYSTEM (all capital) before you change it. Once successfully logged in, double-click on Utilities and then on Record Manager.  Click on the Btrieve.png (184 bytes) button in toolbar:

Make sure that Current Setup group box has the same content as Required Setup. Press the Replace button. This completes the installation on the server and your workstation. If you want to create ET6.1 icon on other workstations, go to the other workstation. Use Windows Explorer to get into folder f:\torus\et61. Locate shortcut.exe and execute it. You will see a window the same as the fourth screen shot above. Repeat the steps as described above.

Note: If you use an operating system other than traditional Chinese Windows, copy and overwrite all files (9 of them) from folder \torus\et61\english to folder \torus\et61. Traditional Chinese Windows measures fonts differently from other versions of Windows.
